John was born in 1716 in New Castle County, Delaware, USA.  John's father was George Gregg and his mother was Sarah Hogg.  His paternal grandfather was William Gregg and his paternal grandmother is "Unknown". He had two brothers named Richard and George.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 72 on June 9th, 1788 in Loudoun County, Virginia, USA.  He was buried in Goose Creek Burying Ground.
