      Edward W Beissel of Chelsea, aged 77, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at his home. He was born April 26, 1925 in Chelsea, The son of Edward and Cora (Foster) Beissel. Mr. Beissel had been a life long resident of Chelsea. Ed was baptized, confirmed and married at St Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea. He was very active in the church, serving as an usher for many, many years, worked very hard on church Lenten Fish Frys and K of C Tootise Roll Drives. He was an organizing and founding member of Knigths of Columbus, Council 3092. Mr Beissel gradulated from Chelsea High School in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy aboard LST 309. He retired from Dana after 35 years of service in August of 1981. Ed enjoyed woodworking and making toys and furinture and he also enjoyed the out of doors, hunting and fishing. He married Margaret Smith in June of 1959 and she preceded him in death in July of 1978. In May of 1979,he married Beulah Radle Rankin and she survives. Also surviving are four stepchildren, John (Rhonda) Rankin of Luna Pier, MI, Henry (Ellen) Rankin of Alto, MI, Carl Rankin of Chelsea MI. and Catherine (Walter Broll) Rankin Bloomington, IL, nine stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Studacder, Julia A. Scott and two brothers, Richard and Foster Beissel. Also surviving are four sisters in law, Margaret Beissel of Concord, MI and Kay Beissel of Ann Arbor, Emil Cummings and Myrtle Green both of Manchester. Also many nieces and nephews survive.
