Cornellius was born in 1878 in Califorinia.¹ Cornellius' father was Nathan Timothy Whitcomb and his mother was Catherine MCCabe. His paternal grandparents were Corneilus Sprague Whitcomb and Elizabeth Patten. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Eugene, Edwin, Pearl, Elizabeth and Gertrude. He was the youngest of the six children. He had two half-brothers named Vernon and Webster.
