George was born on August 21st, 1864.¹ George's father was Albert Augustus Rankin and his mother was Louisa Moffitt. His paternal grandparents were William Rankin and Olive Brown; his maternal grandparents were John Moffitt II and Maraget Dawson. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Samuel, John, Mary, Margaret and Olive. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
