Sterliing was born on May 10th, 1920 in Summerfield Township, MI.¹ Sterliing's father was John Wellington Cilley and his mother was Margaret Ellen Rankin. His paternal grandparents were Daniel S Cilley and Hester Marguerette Dubois; his maternal grandparents were William Henry Rankin and Amy Ursla Kimpton. He had a brother and three sisters, named Erving, Marian, Ruth and Luella. He died at the age of 81 on August 18th, 2001 in Bixby Hospital Adrian, MI. The funeral took place on August 21st, 2001 in Ida, MI and was arranged by Capaul Funeral Home. He was buried on August 28th, 2001 at the Pleasantview Cemetery Petersburg, MI.¹¹
