Josiah was born on October 5th, 1771 in Boston, MA.¹ Josiah's father was William Adams and his mother was Rachel Kidder. His paternal grandparents were John Adams and Mary Hill. He had a brother and two sisters, named Betsey, Sarah and Thomas. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named William, Amos, Benjamin, John, Samuel, Jemina, Abigail and Mary.
