Elsie was born in November 1890. Elsie's father was Lewis Lawrence Simpson and her mother was Mary Catherine McKinnon. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Simpson and Rebecca Willis; her maternal grandparents were Ann McDonald and Lachlan McKinnon. She had three brothers named Gordon, Ian and Lachlan. She died due to a medical problem at the age of 76 in 1966.

- Born in Ballarat, Victoria.
  
  Her middle name of Hopeton was to honour Lord Hopeton.
  
  She developed Parkinson's Disease following on from viral encephalitis in the 1920's. She declined severely from the shock of her son Gordon's death in WWII.
  Later had a hip fracture and died of complications from this.

Elsie and His Honour Judge James were married. They had two sons and a daughter, named Gordon, Dr. Richard and Kathlyn.

  Gordon was born in 1919. He died in an accident or as a result of an injury at the age of 25 in 1944.
  - Death Notes
    
    Died in WWII in a Beaufort bomber crash off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, shortly before he was due to go on leave and get married.
    G. was the ??navigator on the plane which crashed due to mechanical failure. Many Beauforts had been crashing due to unknown mechanical failure. On G's plane they were able to radio the cause of the mechanical failure - the ailerons got stuck. As a result all other Beauforts were modified to remedy this problem, and so prevented any further crashes due to this problem.
