Mary was born on December 3rd, 1857 in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia.  Mary's father was Lachlan McKinnon and her mother was Ann McDonald.  Her paternal grandparents were John McKinnon and Mary McLean  (or McDonald?). She had three brothers and three sisters, named John , Donald, Lachlan, Catherine, Annie and Jessie.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 81 in 1938.

  Born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1857 - 3 years after her parents had emigrated from the Isle Of Mull, Scotland.
  Married to Lewis Lawrence Simpson on 20 October 1887 at Warracknabeal, Victoria.
  Descrbed by Kath Ballard as a tough and dour woman.
