Mary was born on December 3rd, 1857 in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia.  Mary's father was Ann McDonald and her mother was Lachlan McKinnon.  Her maternal grandparents were John McKinnon and Mary McLean  (or McDonald?). She had three brothers and three sisters, named John , Donald, Lachlan, Catherine, Annie and Jessie.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 81 in 1938.

Mary and Lewis were married on October 20th, 1887.  They had three sons and a daughter, named Gordon, Ian, Lachlan and Elsie.
