Gabriel was born in 1786.  Gabriel's father was Pvt David Hanby and his mother was Virginia Jane Dalton.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel Dalton Sr and Anne. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Samuel and Nancy.  He was the youngest of the four children.
