Samuel was born on March 29th, 1854.  Samuel's father was Mark Fleming Deems and his mother was Margaret Baker.  His paternal grandparents were George Deems and Elizabeth Fisher. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Joshua, George, William, Oliver, Mariah and Elizabeth.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 81 on December 11th, 1935.
