Ney was born on August 31st, 1865.  Ney's father was Enoch Deem and his mother was Emeline Beatty.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Deem and Nancy Rollins. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Enoch, William, Forrest, Mary, Clara and Essie.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
