Edwin John Cyril was born in June 1906.  Edwin John Cyril's father is George Morson Ward and his mother is Alice Lee.  His paternal grandparents are John Ward and Elizabeth Armstrong; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Lee and Alice "Ally" Todd.  He has a brother and two sisters, named George Daniel Robert, Annie Muriel Lavinia and Irene Edna.  He is the oldest of the four children.
