Carl was born on July 20th, 1843.  Carl's father was Franz Anton Reuter and his mother was Louise Andreae (Reuter).  His paternal grandparents were Johann Peter Reuter and Margareta Ursula JosFlatten (Reuter); his maternal grandparents were male Andreae and female Andreae. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Franz, Hubert, Elisabeth and Margarethe.  Franz and Carl were twins.  He died at the age of 73 on December 30th, 1916 in Koblenz, Germany.

Carl and Sophia were married in a religious ceremony on May 19th, 1881.  They had five sons named Franz, Georg, Gustav, Fritz and Otto.
