Willy's father was <Unknown> and his mother was Sophia Pincott (Reuter). His maternal grandparents were Stephen Pincott and Caroline Pincott. He had three brothers named Arthur, Charlie and Harry.

General Notes
- On one postcard, Willy signs himself Willy Gräwe; on another William Hegt.
  
  Willy wrote highly detailed letters that were preserved by their recipients, his sister-in-law Anna and the daughter of his half-brother Otto, Lieselotte Reuter.

Willy and Louise were married. They had a son and a daughter, named Arthurje and Harriet.

Family Notes
- In one letter to Lieselotte, he mentions that his wife left after 44 years of marriage. Since he used the word "Scheidung" divorce, it is not clear whether she actually got divorced or just left him because of the rigors of the WWII postwar years.
