Aalbert was born on March 13th, 1905 in Den Helder.  Aalbert's father was Johan Gijsbert Willem van Dormolen and his mother was Elisabeth Johanna Brachthuizer.  His paternal grandfather was Aalbert van Dormolen and his paternal grandmother is Johanna Gijsbertha Wilhelmina van Duuren. He had a brother and a sister, named Johan Pieter Jan and Johanna Georgetta.  He was the oldest of the three children.

Aalbert and Anna Gesina were married on January 17th, 1941 in Batavia.  They had a son and two daughters, named Aalbert Jan, Therese Albertina and Johanna Maria.
