Sara was born in 1852.  Sara's father was Nehemias Jacobson and her mother was Maranne van Hofstede.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Salomo Jacobson and Betje Joseph Stokvis. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Henrie, Salomon, Berend Wolf, Sprins, Joseph, Asser, Isaac Nehemias, Betje, Jeanette and Dina.  She was the tenth oldest of the eleven children.
