John Sam, known as Jo, was born in 1904.  Jo's father was Nehmias Isaac Jacobson and his mother was Henriette Mendels.  His paternal grandparents were Salomon Jacobson and Fenny Mosbach. He had a brother and three sisters, named Fred, Fannie, Iet and Ella.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 91 in 1995.
