Jeanette was born in 1844.  Jeanette's father was Nehemias Jacobson and her mother was Maranne van Hofstede.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Salomo Jacobson and Betje Joseph Stokvis. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Henrie, Salomon, Berend Wolf, Sprins, Joseph, Asser, Isaac Nehemias, Betje, Dina and Sara.  She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
