Dina was born in 1846.  Dina's father was Nehemias Jacobson and her mother was Maranne van Hofstede.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Salomo Jacobson and Betje Joseph Stokvis. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Henrie, Salomon, Berend Wolf, Sprins, Joseph, Asser, Isaac Nehemias, Betje, Jeanette and Sara.  She was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
