Christina was born on May 15th, 1844 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.  Christina's father was David Gardner and her mother was Jane Campbell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Gardner and Jane Alexander; her maternal grandparents were William Campbell and Jane Cockburn. She had four brothers and a sister, named David, James, James, William Mind and Jean Alexander.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
