Eliza was born about 1859 in Taunton, Somerset, England.  Eliza's father was Thomas Adams and her mother was Mary Ann Bridge. She had two brothers and eight sisters, named Frederic, Thomas, Jane, Matilda, Ellen, Mary Ann, Julia, Louisa Ann, Jane and Lily.  She was the eighth oldest of the eleven children.
