Edward was born about 1771 in Bridport, Dorset, England.  Edward's father was Lawrence Ackerman and his mother was Sarah Denziloe. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Abraham, Henry, Jane, Dinah, Sarah and Joan.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died in 1836.
