Wouter was born in 1756 in Loon op Zand and his baptism took place there on July 11th, 1756.1  Wouter's father was Dirk van der Leij and his mother was Dingena Hommel.  His paternal grandparents were Wouter Goverdszn van der Leij and Dorothea Petersdr de Rooij; his maternal grandparents were Michiel Jacobszn Hommel and Jacomijna Willemsdr de Geus.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 70 on January 19th, 1826 in Loon op Zand.2
