Shimon was born on January 11th, 1902.  Shimon's father was Eliyahu Rumstein and his mother was Yehudit Rumstein.  His paternal grandparents were Wolf Yizhak Rumstein and Reizla Zlata Rumstein; his maternal grandparents were Rabbi Shmuel Friedlich and Hendl Hendla Friedlich.  He had four brothers and two sisters, named Yitzhak, Yechezkel, Vovek, Rafael, Regina and Zofia.
