Gitl was born in 1923.  Gitl's father was Reb Menahem Mendel Sankevitch and her mother was Esther Waislfish .  Her paternal grandparents were Rabbi Moshe Yehudah Sankevitch and Sarah Sankevitch.  She had three brothers and a sister, named Avremale, Mordechai, Yechiel and Sheindl.  She was the second oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 21 in 1944.
