Tarulata was born on February 16th, 1944.  Tarulata's father was Karamchand Govind Solanki and her mother was Kamla Otamchand Gohil.  Her paternal grandparents were Govind Geraj Solanki and Nanibai Bhavan Waghela; her maternal grandparents are Otamchand Jeraj Gohil and Harakh. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Javaharlal, Dilip, Dipak, Madan, Kusumkumari, Bhagvati and Prabhavati.  She is the sixth oldest of the eight children.
