Kiran's father was Jivanlal Monji Solanki and his mother was Kamala Bai Karamchand Chauhan.  His paternal grandparents were Monji Kanji Solanki and Harakh <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Karamchand Rugnath Chauhan and Ratan Bai Ghela Parmar. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Vassantlal, Ramesh, Bhupendra (Bipin), Lalitkumar, Manjulagauri bai, Padmavanti Bai, Kumudini and Kusum.  He is the seventh oldest of the nine children.
