John Flanagan
John Flanagan was born in Summitt County, Ohio, Jan. 22nd, 1827. His early life was spent on a farm and he obtained his education in the common school. On the 20th of March, 1851, he was united to marriage with Miss Mary Ann Piles, in Guernsey County, Ohio, where they lived for about one year, then removed to Montgomery Co., Indiana, where they lived for three years. They settled in Pottawattamie, Co., Indiana in November, 1836, and came to Mills County six miles North of Malvern, in March 1863, where they bought a farm and lived until this spring of 1887. They then removed to Malvern , where they united with the Presbyterian Church. To them were born eleven children, of which four are buried at Liberty Church. John, Emma and Amanda are residents of this county. Frank and Charles are in California, Thomas in Nebraska, and Mrs. Sarah McCoy resides in Ellsworth, Kansas.
Mrs. Flanagan preceded her husband in death just three years to a day. He was again united in marriage, on Sept. 10th 1899, with Mrs. Amelia Lane, of Peoria, Illinois, who tenderly ministered upon him during his last illness.
