Nellie Thayer
Nellie McCoy Thayer, daughter of Thomas B. and Sarah M. McCoy was born in Ellsworth County, Kan., on July 12, 1883, and passed away at the Good Samaritan home at Ellsworth, Kan., Feb. 6, 1961, at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 26 days.
She was married to George W. Thayer at Ellsworth, Kan. Nov. 25, 1900. They lived in Ellsworth County on a farm until moving to Lincoln County in 1914, there she again lived on a farm until moving to Lincoln City where she made her home with the exception of the last two years, this time spent as a patient in the Good Samaritan home at Ellsworth, Kan.
To this union eight children were born, Charles W., Whittier, Calif., Joseph T., Neosho Falls, Kan.; George W., Florence, Colo., Ralph L., Upland, Calif., Dorothy P. McCabe, Hunter, Kan., Grover C., Brookville, Kan., Dale, Lincoln, Kan., Mildred M. Wiles, Franklin, Neb. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, also two sisters, Margaret McDonough, Shelby, Mont., and Bessie Gregory, Manhattan, Kan.; two brothers, Ralph McCoy, Ellsworth, Kan., and Harry McCoy, Kanarado, Kan. These with other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her departure.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1942.
She was a member of the Congregational church, Lincoln, Kan.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, always having time to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
The funeral for Mrs. Thayer was held Friday at the Congregational Christian church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Fast. … She was laid to rest in Lincoln cemetery.
