    - Began his career in Wellsboro, Tioga County where he published "The Phoenix" for a period of two years. He went to Smethport and purchased "The McKean County Journal" on 9/13/1837 and changed its name to "The Beacon". He published that for three years before selling it to J.B. Oviatt.
      Note: Some information acquired from the Smethport "Democrat" newspaper datated June 17, 1892.

  From 1861 to 1862 his occupation was Captain full time in public administration.

    - In 1861 raised a military company (Co. H 58th PA Vol Inf) and became its captain. Served with the union until 1862 when he was forced to quit due to severe frostbite.
  From 1872 his occupation was Postmaster full time in public administration. He retired in 1879.
