Jean Frances was born on September 21st, 1908.  Jean Frances' father was William Jarvis Wharin and her mother was Amelia Phillips.  Her paternal grandparents were William Wharin and Mary June Dunn; her maternal grandfather was Frederick E Phillips and her maternal grandmother is Amelia Connors. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William Phillips, John Frederick, Amelia Mary and Helen Ridout.  She was the youngest of the five children.
