Judith was born in 1778 in Tenterden, Kent, England and her baptism took place on May 27th, 1778.  Judith's father was Thomas Reader and her mother was Sarah Merralls. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Mary, June, Catherine, Hannah, Philly and Harriett.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.
