John Walter was born on December 26th, 1860.  John Walter's father was John Knowles Leather and his mother was Emily Jane Hardwick.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Sutton Leather and Elizabeth Knowles; his maternal grandparents were William Benjamin Hardwick and Mary Ann Farrar. He had three brothers named Percy Hardwick, Basil Henry and Harold.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 73 on November 14th, 1934.
