Gertrude was born in July 1875 in Rumford, Oxford, Maine.1   Gertrude's father was William Freeman Stevens and her mother is Arvilla E. Stevens. She had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas Bradley 'Brad'', Joseph A., Charles F. and Ruth.  She was the fourth oldest of the five children. She had two half-sisters named Mabel and Susan Frances.  She died at the age of 33 on August 11th, 1908 in Woodstock, Oxford, Maine.  She was buried in Greenleaf Cemetery, East Milton, Oxford, Maine.1 1
