Alfred Woodland

Alfred was born on July 22nd, 1832 in Mill Hill, Hendon.

Alfred's father was Thomas Woodland and his mother was Ellen Phipps Findell. His paternal grandparents were William Woodland and Sarah Rawlenson ??; his maternal grandparents were William Findell and Elizabeth Phipps. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Robert, John, Edwin, William Henry, Charles, James, Thomas, Jemima, Ann, Adelaide and Rosalena. He was the eleventh oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 34 on September 15th, 1866.

EVEN.Comment	Alfred has died this is if most probably his widow Mary and his surviving child - Mary Woodland married Noah Etherington a Police Constable in 1868. Noah Etherington and Mary in the 1871 census have 3 children, two of their own and Maria Etherington age 12, too old to be Noah and Mary's daughter and the right age to be Agnes Maria and 'adopted' by Noah Etherington. Can't have been a formal adoption as she married as Woodland may just be a mistake by the census enumerator. They have 2 visitors both with surname Groom from the same place in Suffolk where Mary is from.
