William was born on March 11th, 1880 in Lucas Cottages East Ham.1   William's father was James Walker (b Old Brompton -Stableman Gas Worker bur E 882) and his mother was Sarah Piper (b Chatham bur StMaryMag Eham).  His paternal grandparents were James Walker (Cowkeeper-Carman - Stableman) and Harriett Light; his maternal grandparents were Charles Piper (Blacksmith b Maidstone Kent) and Mary Ann Savin (b Ramsgate Kent). He had a brother and four sisters, named James, Mary, Hannah, Eliza and Nellie or Ellen.  He was the third youngest of the six known children. He had two half-brothers named Joseph and James.  He died due to a medical problem, Spanish Flu, at the age of 38 on November 28th, 1918 in Mile End Military Hospital.





William's family

William and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on December 25th, 1899 at St John Church North Woolwich.  They had two sons and a daughter, named William, Leonard and Elsie.
