James was born on October 18th, 1902 in East Ham and his christening took place on November 16th, 1902 at St Mary Magdalene East Ham.1 2  James' father was James Walker (b Old Brompton -Stableman Gas Worker bur E 882) and his mother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) or Lizzie Ellis (b Haggerstone).  His paternal grandparents were James Walker (Cowkeeper-Carman - Stableman) and Harriett Light; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Ellis (b Bourn Cambs) and Ann Cutler. He had an adopted brother named Joseph. He had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named William, James, Mary, Hannah, Eliza, Nellie or Ellen and Lillie.  He died at the age of 73 on November 16th, 1975 in Hobart Tasmania.

James and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on May 4th, 1929 in Poplar Reg Office witnessed by V.A. McDonald & S.E. Casey.3   They had three sons and a daughter, named Norman, Brian, David and Kathleen.
