John was born in July 1778 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on July 6th, 1778 at St Margaret's Barking.1   John's father was Henry [fisherman] Thredder and his mother was Priscella Vere.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Thredder and Jane Marchant; his maternal grandfather was Henry Vere and his maternal grandmother is Mary. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Henry, Wiilliam, William, Joseph, Bannister, Jane, Mary, Priscella, Sarah and Sarah.  He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
