Bannister was born in November 1776 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on November 5th, 1776 at St Margaret's Barking.1   Bannister's father was Henry [fisherman] Thredder and his mother was Priscella Vere.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Thredder and Jane Marchant; his maternal grandfather was Henry Vere and his maternal grandmother is Mary. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Henry, Wiilliam, William, Joseph, John, Jane, Mary, Priscella, Sarah and Sarah.  He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
