John was born about April 17th, 1725 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on April 17th, 1725 at St Margarets Barking.1   John's father was Richard Stradling (Smack Owner Grave 742) and his mother was Elizabeth Turner.  His paternal grandparents are Stradling and <Unknown>; his maternal grandfather was Joseph Turner and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had a brother and two sisters, named Richard, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Martha.
