Henry was born in June 1830 in Stepney Middlesex and his baptism took place on August 14th, 1831 at St Dunstan Stepney. Henry's father was William (twine spinner) Spelman and his mother was Charlotte Nichols.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas (twine spinner) Gt Yarmouth-Bethnal Gree Spelman  and Mary Foster. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, Robert , Joseph, Susannah, Emma, Victoria, Charlotte and Rose.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, Bronchitis, at the age of 61 on January 10th, 1892 at 6 Pal Mall Place Barking.  The funeral took place on January 17th, 1892 at the Rippleside Cemetery Barking.  He was buried on January 17th, 1892 at the Rippleside Cemetery Barking.1 2

Henry and Mary  were married in a religious ceremony on May 20th, 1861 at St Philips Mile End Old Town witnessed by Susan Hudson - Malby Dored?.3   They had three sons and six daughters, named Henry, George, William, Emily, Sarah, Ann, Susannah, Ellen and Charlotte.
