Ann was born in January 1871 in 3 Friendly Pl Mile End Old Town. Ann's father was Henry (twine spinner) Spelman (D 1540 Rippleside ) and her mother was Mary  Ann Casey (D 1540 Rippleside ).  Her paternal grandparents were William (twine spinner) Spelman and Charlotte Nichols; her maternal grandparents were John (Cigar Maker) Casey and Mary Shea. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Henry, George, William, Emily, Sarah, Susannah, Ellen and Charlotte.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
