Mary was born in 1870 in Wethersfield Essex.  Mary's father was Thomas Rogers (of Weathersfield) and her mother was Orpha French (of Weathersfield).  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph of Wetherfield French and Elizabeth of Finchingfield More. She had six sisters named Sarah, Elizabeth, Susan, Sophia, Kate and Ethel.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
