Elizabeth was born about 1826 in Scotland.  Elizabeth's father was James Purves (Scotland Blacksmith) and her mother was Jane Morrison?. She had six brothers named James, Robert, Thomas, John, Alexander and George.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
