Emma was born on December 28th, 1838 in Barking Essex.1   Emma's father was John of Bromley Newman (Fisherman) and her mother was Sarah Ann Dixon (of Barking).  Her maternal grandparents were James Dixon and Sarah  Not Known. She had three brothers named Charles, William and Thomas.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died at the age of 24 on March 20th, 1863 in Barking Essex.  The funeral took place on March 29th, 1863 at St Margaret's Barking.  She was buried on March 29th, 1863 at St Margaret's Barking.2

Emma and Alexander were married in a religious ceremony on July 16th, 1856 at St Mary Whitechapel witnessed by C. Livermore and Sarah Newman.3   They had a daughter named Florence.
