Elizabeth was born about 1885 in Ilford Essex.  Elizabeth's father was George William Farren (b Stratford) and her mother was Ann Gilbert.  Her paternal grandparents were Timothy Farren (shoemaker - Cordwainer b Colchester) and Elizabeth Bennett (b Ilford); her maternal grandparents are Robert Gilbert (Labourer) and <Unknown>. She had four brothers and five sisters, named George, Timothy, Robert, Joseph, Rose, Mary, Jessie, Phoebe and Alice.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
