Annie was born in May 1846 in Barking Essex and her christening took place on May 31st, 1846 at St Margaret's Barking.1  Annie's father was James Croney (Fisherman) and her mother was Matilda Ship.  Her paternal grandparents are James Croney and Lucy; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Ship (Blacksmith) and Mary Elizabeth Duffield. She had a brother and four sisters, named Joseph, Mary, Matilda, Ellen and Charlotte.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
