Rachel was born in 1860 in Rezekne.  Rachel's father was Leiba Sapir and her mother was Tzilya Sapir.  Her paternal grandparents were Mowsha Sapir and Genya Sapir; her maternal grandparents were Moshe Telzner and Feiga Telzner. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Gregory, Ilya, Reize Lea  and Libe Dobche.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had a half-sister named Haya Frida.  She died at the age of 82 in 1942 in Moskva.
