Lev was born in 1886 in Rezekne.  Lev's father was Iosef(Iosel) Rivkin and his mother was Rachel Rivkin.  His paternal grandparents were Girsh Rivkin and Sora Rivkin; his maternal grandparents were Leiba Sapir and Tzilya Sapir. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Hirsh, Benyamin, Izaac, Ilya, Tzilya, Sofya and Genya.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died due to a medical problem at the age of 71 in 1957.
