Ilya was born on May 6th, 1899 in Rezekne.  Ilya's father was Iosef(Iosel) Rivkin and his mother was Rachel Rivkin.  His paternal grandparents were Girsh Rivkin and Sora Rivkin; his maternal grandparents were Leiba Sapir and Tzilya Sapir. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Lev, Hirsh, Benyamin, Izaac, Tzilya, Sofya and Genya.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 83 in 1982.
